Our Memories
Kaleb is an achondroplasia dwarf and we had been trying to find a way to make this hunt in
January a good memory. We wanted to show him that just because you have a physical
disability doesn’t mean you can’t do what you put your mind to. One way or another we were
going to make it happen for him. Micah and his group made it happen for sure. When we first
met Micah in person he treated Kaleb like he was one of his kids. Micah told us that day he
sees a child with the want to hunt and learn, so he will do what he can to make it the best he
could. The day Kaleb got his deer we called the guys at the restaurant and they told us that
they were excited and we wanted to know if we needed help tracking the deer and we said no
not yet. Then Kaleb, his dad, and myself(mom) went tracking. We found the deer about 50 or
so yards from where it was shot and the look of pure accomplishment and joy came over my
son’s face. When we went to leave we called Southern Reds BBQ to see if they wanted to see
it and they all said yes. Stacey and everyone that was there came out to see Kaleb’s deer. He
said at that moment that it felt awesome to know that many people cared about him getting his
first deer and everyone was just as excited as we were for him. This experience has made
myself and my husband and our son want to do more with everyone from camp W.H.O.A. They
sure have a way to make you feel like family and we appreciate it.
So to everyone with camp W.H.O.A and Southern Reds BBQ we thank you all and look forward
to the next one.

My daughter Anna had a great time. Everyone was very polite and helpful. The food was delicious! Anna was so excited to make new friends and go deer hunting for the first time, she can't wait to go back!
Best camp ever! It was awesome that I was able to get a buck but camp itself was the best. Met new friends and I had a great time. My mentor (Brian) was great. Love this camp and I hope we can go back next year.
Thank you very much for inviting us. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. I was able to actually have some "me time" with peers while my son was having a great time with his new friends. This Hero Hunt event was more than I have imagined and then some. I cannot wait for us to go back. Thank you so much.
I participated in this event the first time just to try something new and to meet new people. Then I made friends and everyone was so nice that I wanted to go again. When I went the first time, I didn’t shoot but once because I was nervous. I went again that year and still didn’t shoot. When I came back the second year everybody was cheering me on and helping me through it. it helped me realize that I can work through things. While I was at this event I got to talk to and become friends with people who all understood what each other went through and I think that is important. One of the things I appreciate is all of the volunteers who help out. They all work together to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone. I also like running around with the other kids playing different games. Another thing I liked is being heard and respected. Micah asked for my opinion about different things which I really appreciated.
After having a week to reflect on what I consider to be one of the greatest experiences I've had in a long time, it's time to share it with everyone. Thank you doesn't seem like near enough to express for this. Thanks to Micah Seavers, Stacey Bullock,Ray Williams and an absolute host of others the annual walking humbly outdoor adventures heros hunt was a smash again. If you look through the photos and videos you will see so many experiences and stories told. What doesn't show and is often taken for granted is the life lessons, the fellowship, the friendships, and pure dedication to giving back and sharing a passion.
This hunt gives my daughter and I time, time that is ever harder to come by as sports and work take over the day to day. While my daughters and I are avid in the outdoors, much prep work is needed to take them afield. Thanks to this crew of true Americans I get to focus fully on my daughter and I. We shared so many things, they facilitated a pure landscape of God's creation for my little girl to ask the tough questions, to laugh and make jokes and simply enjoy the wonder of nature and all its creation. We are given the opportunity to teach our children and the children of our fallen comrades. To be mentores and guide them in the absence of their loved one. Most of all they let our kids know they aren't alone. My daughter goes to school in a class of 30 and she is the only veterans kid. Much like the others in camp the day to day differences and quirks of life with a veteran leaves them somewhat lost as to where they actually fit in. To see them smile and hear them laugh when they see each other each year is beyond priceless. For them to know they are with their comrades who cope with a life that has been dealt to them with hardships few know or understand. They are forever bonded in a friendship forged by the service and sacrifice of their veteran family. Ive watched my little girl text with her new friends and to see her smile when they answer. There is no possible way I can repay these men for the gift they have given me. There is no greater calling than to give of yourself to your fellow man, and this group of people are the standard to adhere to when it comes to that. If you are ever looking for an organization to donate to this one is as fine as I've ever seen. Thank you a million times over. My heart is filled once again for another year and I can't wait to return next fall. Semper Fi to them all and keep up the good work.
Thank you so much! It was so much fun- I made a lot of new friends and had an awesome hunting mentor! I really enjoyed learning about hunting and hope to come back next year.

Thank you to all the WHOA team! I am so grateful for the time each of you took to make this weekend so special-- the memories, friendships, and skills introduced. My daughter described it as the best weekend EVER! It warmed my heart to be welcomed into this community-- to know that others care and are willing to help fill the gap. Katie was able to learn at her own pace, first by observing and then by doing. She really connected to her mentor. Thank you so much for including us.
